On this page you will find many old cures for various ailments. These have
been garnered from numerous family Bibles and in the words of old healers.
However, in the pursuit of knowledge I will be trying to find links to any empirical
data which can validate these ancient cures.
This list of foods is for blocking pain or acting like a variant of aspirin:
Almonds, apples, blueberries, cherries, coffee, cloves, currants, curry powder,
dates, garlic, gherkins, ginger, licorice, onion, oranges, paprika, peppers,
peppermint, pineapples, prunes, raspberries, and tea.
One thing I found amazing when I was growing up was that aspirin had its origins
in coal. However how I found this out was by an accident. I had fallen at the
mine with my grandfather and he took some coal powder that mixed......Headaches
When the headache starts in the back of your neck and goes out in a dull ache,
it is most likely a tension headache. This is brought on by poor diet,
emotional stress, constipation, posture, or muscle contractions.
When the headache is around the eyes making tears and you get flushed, you will
most likely have a cluster headache. Usually men get them more than
women, but they rank right up there with migraines.
The migraine... well if you can't stand light, you want to vomit when you
move, and it even hurts to move -- you probably have it.
The foods you want to stay away from if you suffer migraines are: red
wines, chocolate, tuna, cheese, sausage, some cabbages, and beer. Also on your
list to avoid would be citrus fruits, nuts and peanuts, bananas, corn, tomatoes,
and MSG.
Some of the old recopies that helped contained the following herbs: willow,
ginger, ginkgo, garlic, cayenne pepper, skullcap, valerian, and especially
meadowsweet and feverfew.
Primrose oil taken in the morning and at the evening meal may also help.
Pain and your acid level
There is an island where people incur less pain than most in the Pacific.
The secret is said to be in a calcium which is derived from the coral which
degrades and goes into the fresh water the people drink. This mixture in the
water allows calcium and potassium to be absorbed more easily and helps ease
pain. I will include a link which will point you toward the company who is now
producing a sachet which is placed in water to do the same function.
Back injury / pain
This is a personal subject for myself. (Mind you, I know what I should and
should not eat and how much exercise I should do. Do I? No.)
I can not tell you how many times I have been told not to eat: salt, sugars, caffeine,
or eat meat and how that I should eat ginger, calcium rich foods, and
vegetables. Brown rice, butternut squash, apricots, chickpeas, lima beans,
raisins, soybeans, spinach, tofu, kale, collards, and naval oranges are what I
should eat -- and at times I do (but I subscribe to the fact that we worked
our way up the food chain. I do not want to graze my way back to the bottom.)
Being a veteran and keeping in contact with groups who do pain management, I
found our Uncle trying foods like rice, pasta, and potatoes as a pain
supplement. Standard faire? Well yes and no. The foods are rich in
carbohydrates, but also abundant in an amino acid known as Tryptophan.
I won't delve any further on this subject, but it is a good lead on information.
Oddly enough there have been several other things used to help alleviate pain,
including DMSO and shark cartilage.
Menstrual
Chasteberry, borage, and evening primrose help in alleviating menstrual
pain.
Arthritis
Salmon and tuna have an oil which helps alleviate the pain. My notes show Omega
and some other scribbles jargon which I can no longer read. I will look further
into this to find out what I meant to write.
As sadistic as this may sound, a bee sting in an inflamed area can sometimes
help. Something in the stomach juices of the bee's stinger helps
"cool" the joints after the swelling of the sting goes down.
Stomach problems
Chamomile, spearmint, and peppermint are calming foods for an upset
stomach.
If you suffer an ulcer eat licorice. A friend told me that it makes the stomach
stronger.
Garlic can also help if you have ulcers. Since ulcers are produced by bacteria,
the garlic will help in destroying the "bad" bacteria.
